Exploratory talks between Canada and ASEAN, regarding Free Trade Agreement
Trade between Canada and ASEAN reached $21.6 billion in 2016. In mid-September 2017, Canada and ASEAN members met in Manila to discuss and launch the opportunity for a free trade agreement between the regions. This potential deal could provide a reduction in the duties currently in place from the region, as well as bolster trade, opening new opportunities for Canadians.
Delays for West Coast Canadian Ports
Canadian business and forwarders can expect continuing delays and increased dwell times at all West Coast ports, such as Prince Rupert and Deltaport, due to extremely high volume and other various contributing factors. These delays have been experienced since mid-August and show no signs of improving. It is important for our customers to keep this mind when they are planning their supply chains. Investments and improvements are being made to help ease congestion, but it will be sometime before we see any significant results.
Air Cargo Volumes Up
In July 2017, global air cargo volumes were showing an increase of 11.4%, which marks the fourth straight time in five months that the industry has experienced double-digit airfreight growth. This consistent growth comes from an uptick in global trade, rising exports, and growing economies around the globe.
