Frequently Asked Questions

We get the same questions from a lot of the shippers we work with, so we put the answers in one place. If you don't see yours below, give our team a call.

Who are the carriers C&D Logistics represents?

We work with a mix of large multi-national carriers and smaller regional transport companies, and every one of them earns a spot in our network the same way: a clean safety record and a fleet of at least 10 trucks. We hold every carrier we dispatch to the same bar, regardless of size, and each one must meet the governmental regulations that apply to commercial transport across North America. That vetting is what lets us stand behind a load even though we don't own the trucks moving it.

Is there a cost to use your service?

No. We don't charge a fee to quote your freight, book your carrier, or manage your paperwork. You pay for the shipping cost on the freight you move, full stop. There are no hidden add-ons buried in the invoice.

Does my rate include fuel?

Yes. Every quote we give you already has fuel built in, so there's no fuel surcharge (FSC) tacked on after the fact. The number we quote is the number you pay.

Is this quote in Canadian funds?

By default, yes. We rate every quote in Canadian dollars unless you tell us upfront that you'd rather be quoted and invoiced in USD. Just flag it when you request a quote and we'll set it up that way from the start.

Where can I ship my products to?

Anywherec in North America. That covers domestic Canadian freight, cross-border shipments into the US, and the intermodal and rail lanes that connect the two. If your freight needs to move further than that, see our answer on international shipping below.

How much can I expect to save using C&D Logistics?

It depends on your shipment type, your lanes, and the discounts your volume qualifies you for with our carrier network. We've seen regular shippers cut their freight spend by as much as 50 percent once we've matched them to the right carrier and equipment for their lane. The only way to know your number is to run a real quote against your actual freight profile, which takes us minutes, not days.

What is a spot quote?

A spot quote is the lowest price we can put together for the specific move you're asking about, priced against current carrier capacity and lane conditions at the moment you ask. It's not a standing rate. If your freight or timing changes, ask us to re-run it.

Where does my bill come from?

Always from us. No matter which carrier in our network actually hauls your freight, your invoice comes from C&D Logistics and only C&D Logistics. If a carrier ever sends an invoice directly to your company by mistake, call us right away and we'll get it corrected.

When do I pay?

Our standard terms are Net 30. If you'd rather pay on a rolling basis with a credit card, we're happy to set that up too, with a standard 3 percent processing fee.

How can I track my shipment?

Every load we book comes with a PRO number tied to your bill of lading, and that's the number to use for tracking with the carrier handling your freight. If you'd rather not juggle multiple carrier portals, call or email our team with your PRO number or reference and we'll pull the status for you directly. Since we manage the relationship with the carrier, we can usually get you a straight answer faster than digging through a tracking page yourself.

What happens if my freight is damaged or lost?

Contact us as soon as you notice the issue, and don't discard the damaged freight or its packaging until the claim is resolved. We'll walk you through the documentation the carrier needs, which typically means photos of the damage, your bill of lading, and a written description of what was lost or damaged. We handle the back-and-forth with the carrier on your behalf so you're not stuck chasing claim status on your own.

Can you ship internationally, outside of North America?

Our core network is built around Canadian, US, and Mexican lanes, along with the ocean and air freight connections that get your goods moving beyond that. If your shipment needs to reach a market outside North America, tell us the origin, destination, and commodity, and we'll tell you straight away whether it's a fit for our network or better suited to a specialized international partner.

Is there a minimum shipment size for LTL freight?

There's no strict minimum on our end. Less-than-truckload freight generally makes sense for anything from a single pallet up to around 6 to 10 pallets or roughly 10,000 pounds, and once you're regularly shipping more than that, full truckload usually becomes the more cost-effective option. If you're not sure which side of that line your freight falls on, tell us your weight and pallet count and we'll recommend the mode that saves you the most.

What documents do I need to ship with C&D Logistics?

At minimum, every shipment needs a bill of lading. Depending on what you're moving and where it's going, you may also need a commercial invoice, a certificate of origin, a carrier manifest, or a proof of delivery once the freight arrives. HAZMAT shipments carry their own documentation and placard requirements on top of that. We'll tell you exactly what's needed for your specific shipment before it leaves the dock, so nothing holds up your freight at the border or the receiving dock.
